Paradigm GP: We disagree with some of Blast's designs and are communicating with the team about our concerns.
Paradigm GP Dan Robinson posted on X platform that Paradigm#Blast Although they are excited about many components of Blast, they also believe that some of Blast’s previous announcements have “crossed the line” in terms of information delivery and execution. For example, Paradigm disagrees with the decision to launch the “bridge” before Layer2 goes online, and does not approve of the design of not allowing withdrawals within three months, because this sets a very bad precedent for other projects, and excessive marketing also damages the team’s serious image.
Robinson added that Paradigm supported Pacman (founder of Blur and Blast) and other co-founders because they have demonstrated the ability to build great products over the years, so when Pacman told Paradigm his vision for Layer2, we invested in him again.
Paradigm has been discussing these concerns with the Blast team and appreciates their willingness to communicate, but there are still many differences between the two sides. Paradigm invests in strong and independent founders, and the views of both parties will not always be the same. However, Paradigm understands that the market may want Paradigm to set an example in the industry, so Paradigm wants to make it clear that the organization does not approve of such strategies and will take Paradigm’s responsibilities in the ecosystem seriously.
Earlier news, Blur and Blast founder Pacman posted on X platform: "I saw another meme about Paradigm being responsible for the release of Blast. I want to make it clear: Paradigm had no involvement in Blast's GTM (go-to-market strategy). Frankly speaking, if they were involved, they might ask me to change many aspects of Blast's launch.
Paradigm is a powerhouse in research. They helped invent Uniswap and Blend, and created Foundry and other tools to further Ethereum. We consult with Paradigm on the technical side of L2 design (which goes live in February) - they are great at that. We don't consult with Paradigm on GTM - we internalize that.
In fact, Paradigm asked me to make changes to the GTM plan after launch. We are actively considering their suggestions. However, like any respectable investor, they let the entrepreneurs they work with make the final decision, even though they may not agree with a specific plan and offer their own advice. This is one of the many reasons I enjoy working with their team.”
