✍ The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Hanoi branch has lowered its estimate of Vietnam's 2023/24 coffee supply to 28.6 million 60kg bags, down 14.9% and 8.7% compared to the report. previous report and the 2022/23 crop year. Of which, coffee output decreased by 12.1% from 31.3 million bags in the May report to 27.5 million bags in the latest report. The amount of coffee stored at the beginning of the period also decreased more than 5 times to 339,000 bags.
- USDA believes that weather changes and the El Nino phenomenon make coffee trees unable to grow in ideal conditions, leading to a decrease in output. At the same time, taking advantage of inventory for export in the 2022/23 crop year due to scarce supply has caused the amount of goods stored in the beginning of the 2023/24 crop year to decrease to a low level. Low output caused the USDA to lower the level of coffee bean exports in the new crop year to 23 million bags, down 6.1% and 9.4% respectively compared to data in the previous report and the 2022/23 crop year.
