Smart contracts must include a kill switch under a revised version of EU data law published by EU member states on Monday.

The European Council, which represents national governments, agreed on the text on Friday with a proposal that appeared to echo one already favored by lawmakers in the European Parliament. The final wording of the law must now be negotiated by the Parliament and the Council under the mediation of the European Commission.

Proposed legislation requiring smart contracts to be able to interrupt or terminate their activities has raised concerns in the blockchain community about disrupting what are supposed to be automated and unchangeable programs. (CoinDesk)
