Canadian cryptographer and computer scientist Peter Todd said he was forced into hiding for safety following an HBO documentary that revealed him as the inventor of Bitcoin, Cointelegraph reported.

The documentary, titled (Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery), aired on October 9 and claims to reveal the true identity of “Satoshi Nakamoto.” The documentary ends with Todd saying “Yes, I am Satoshi Nakamoto.”

Todd has repeatedly denied being Satoshi Nakamoto and said in an interview with Wired that he was forced into hiding due to security concerns. He accused director Cullen Hoback of using false evidence to reach the wrong conclusion.

However, according to multiple sources and footage from the documentary, Todd once jokingly said “I am Satoshi Nakamoto,” similar to the line “I am Spartacus” from the movie (Spartacus).

Todd said he agreed to participate in the documentary because he believed it was a documentary about the history of Bitcoin, not an attempt to uncover the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto. He believes that falsely identifying ordinary people as Satoshi Nakamoto will bring threats such as robbery and kidnapping.

Director Hoback believes that Todd and others are overreacting and said that revealing the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto does not pose an actual threat to those under investigation.
