According to BlockBeats, on October 22, Facebook's parent company Meta Platforms will begin using facial recognition technology to combat scams using celebrity photos, the so-called "celebrity bait ads."

Scammers use photos of celebrities to lure users into clicking on ads, which then lead them to suspicious websites designed to steal personal information or ask for money. Meta will filter out these ads by comparing the images in the posts to those on the celebrities' Facebook or Instagram accounts.

“If we confirm a match and the ad is a scam, we block it,” Meta wrote in a blog post. Meta did not disclose how prevalent this type of scam is on its service.
