According to Cointelegraph, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin and spokesman Josh Stark announced the details of the Ethereum Foundation's spending in 2023 in a social media post on August 27.

Of the expenditure, 36.5% was used for "new institutions" and 24.9% was used for Layer-1 research and development, including funding for external teams and internal R&D.

Community development is the third largest spending category at 12.7%. The remaining 25.9% is allocated to zero-knowledge applications, internal operations, layer-2 research, and developer platforms.

DeFi developer Kain Warwick accused Buterin and the Ethereum Foundation of not paying enough attention to DeFi, saying that only a small part of its annual budget was used for DeFi development and most of the funds were wasted.

Buterin responded that he is focused on sustainable projects in the long term and reiterated his commitment to the DeFi field, but said he would not invest in short-term or unsustainable projects.

In addition, the Ethereum Foundation and ETH Kipu held a blockchain technology workshop in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and announced plans for blockchain internships and online courses in the Solidity programming language.
