On July 23, two individuals indicted for their involvement in the Forcount cryptocurrency Ponzi scheme pleaded guilty to charges in a New York court, BlockBeats reported.
At a July 22, 2024 hearing in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, Antonia Perez Hernandez and Nestor Nunez pleaded guilty to wire fraud conspiracy charges related to the Forcount scam.
Hernandez, Nunez and others are accused of defrauding $8.4 million from primarily Spanish-speaking investors between 2017 and 2021 by falsely claiming that crypto trading and mining through Forcount would yield lucrative returns.
Juan Tacuri, one of the five defendants indicted in 2022 who also pleaded guilty, was one of the promoters who held seminars across the U.S. to persuade investors to sign up for Forcount. Under a deal reached with prosecutors in June, he agreed to forfeit about $4 million and property purchased with victim funds.
