According to Jinshi, Statistics Canada announced on Tuesday that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 2.9% year-on-year in May, up from 2.7% in April. The acceleration in growth was mainly due to rising service prices, which rose 4.6% in May, following 4.2% in April. Mobile phone services, tourism, leasing and air transportation were the main factors affecting the rapid growth of service prices. The increase in commodity prices was the same as 1.0% in April. On a month-on-month basis, the CPI rose 0.6% in May, mainly due to increased tourism consumption.
