According to ChainCatcher, Indonesian President Joko Widodo said he noticed signs of money laundering through crypto assets, amounting to $8.6 billion (139 trillion rupiah) in 2021. In addition to cryptocurrencies and NFTs, the president also emphasized the need to monitor other potential money laundering tools, including virtual assets, market activities, electronic currencies, and AI-driven transactions.

In response to the president’s directive, Financial Services Authority (OJK) board chairman Mahendra Siregar said his agency will oversee these issues when cryptocurrency regulation is handed over to the OJK next year.
