According to CryptoPotato, an anonymous cryptocurrency investor who uses the username "Sell When Over" on the X platform lost $800,000 due to two allegedly malicious Google Chrome browser extensions. The investor first posted a warning on the X platform that they found that multiple wallet applications had lost $500,000. They suspected that the Google Chrome browser was compromised and that a keylogger targeting a specific crypto wallet extension might be involved. A few weeks ago, the trader postponed the update of Google Chrome several times. However, a forced Windows update eventually forced a system restart. After restarting Chrome, they found that all tabs disappeared and the login information for the extensions was reset. After that, the victim was forced to re-enter all the credentials on Chrome and manually re-import the seed phrase of their cryptocurrency wallet from another secure device. The user suspected that the keylogger compromised their sensitive information, resulting in the funds being emptied. After an initial investigation, they found two suspicious extensions - "Sync test beta" and "Simple Game", as well as the automatic Korean translation setting enabled in Chrome. The user is still unsure how their Chrome browser was compromised, but confirmed that the "Sync test BETA" extension is a keylogger. At the same time, “Simple Game” appears to monitor tab activity and communicate with PHP scripts on external websites.
