Interoperability and staking hub Picasso Network has successfully integrated the Inter-Chain Communication (IBC) protocol with Ethereum, Blockworks reports. This means that Ethereum can now perform native asset and data transfers with Cosmos Hub, Polkadot, and Kusama via IBC. Picasso said that more chains will be connected in the future, including Solana. Most current bridging protocols use lock-and-mint or lock-and-destroy methods to transfer between blockchains, which can pose a security risk. Therefore, local bridging is often considered the most secure way for two independent blockchains to conduct transactions. IBC originated from the Cosmos ecosystem and supports native bridging of tokens, messages and accounts. In order to bring IBC to Ethereum, the Picasso team modified IBC and created an IBC stack on Ethereum. According to Picasso, there are two light clients involved in the Ethereum and IBC connection. These relays are responsible for transmitting IBC packets between Ethereum and connected chains. Osmosis, one of the largest decentralized exchanges in the Cosmos ecosystem, will become the primary destination for Ethereum assets and liquidity within the Cosmos ecosystem.
