The Bank of England issued a statement saying that it is recruiting scholars for its newly established Central Bank Digital Currency Academic Advisory Group, hoping to bring together experts in monetary policy, finance, competitive economics, industrial organization, behavioral science, law, innovation theory, marketing and business to understand the practical challenges of designing, implementing and operating CBDC.
The UK has not yet decided to introduce a CBDC, saying it will study the technical and policy requirements of a digital pound in the next 2-3 years. The CBDC academic group does not bear any decision-making responsibility and aims to promote interdisciplinary discussions on a range of topics related to retail CBDC.
