According to TechFlow news on January 6, reported by Coinpedia, Jeju Island in South Korea announced that it will launch an NFT-based travel card project in 2025 to attract millennial and Gen Z tourists. The project will integrate with the local blockchain stablecoin Tamna Jeon, offering travelers multiple benefits including travel subsidies, membership rights, and discounts on attractions.
Jeju Island Governor Oh Young-hoon stated that the region is gradually advancing its digital transformation, with Web3 as the core technology, and plans to apply NFTs in various fields of government services. Although South Korea has strict regulations on ICOs and NFTs, Jeju Island, as a subtropical area with a special legal framework, has been continuously exploring growth driven by cryptocurrency technology since 2018. The NFT travel card project will first pilot for domestic tourists in the second half of 2025, with travel subsidies issued in local currency.
