An anonymous survey initiated by Lightspeed revealed the views of Solana's founders on other ecosystems, venture capital, memecoins, and the Solana internal circle. Overall, they expressed concerns about the lack of blockchain space and identified Base and Sui as the most competitive opponents. This article is based on a piece by Jack Kubinec and has been organized and compiled by Baihua Blockchain. (Background: Five Predictions for the Solana Ecosystem: Musk's Coin, Stablecoin Market Cap Quadruples, Approval of SOL Spot ETF...) (Additional Background: Grayscale's report: The 20 cryptocurrencies most favored for Q1 2025, focusing on DeFi, AI Agents, and the Solana ecosystem) Lightspeed conducted an anonymous survey distributed to Solana's founders, heavy users, etc., aimed at genuinely understanding their perspectives on other ecosystems, venture capital firms, startups, and more. The survey covered various options and provided space for written responses, edited for grammar and clarity. Here are the results from our survey of 42 founders: 1. Besides Solana, which blockchain would you choose? Some founders expressed, "If it weren't for Solana, I wouldn't be involved in cryptocurrency." 2. What is your favorite political party in the United States? 3. Which crypto VC do you rate the highest? The founders also mentioned, "Choosing one is unfair." 4. Which crypto VC do you rate the lowest? The founders remarked, "Asian venture capital firms blindly following based on who the lead investor is are also not okay." 5. It is said that the Solana internal circle has deep waters, often promoting internal projects at the expense of external ones? The founders expressed, "I don't know, it's all the same, not much difference." "I don't like this question; it feels like it's stirring up controversy rather than providing information." "It does exist, and I am part of it, but not at the 'expense of external projects.' Because I have also invested a lot of time and money in 'external projects.' It's reciprocal—you give, and you will receive in return." "It doesn't exist, and yet I am part of it." "In the early stages and bear market, some personal networks formed. Those who valued collaboration and helping Solana naturally established closer relationships over years of effort. Some people (including those from the OG Solana Labs team) later became influential figures with a large following. This is natural. Almost all surviving teams have received funding from venture capital and Solana Ventures. These are facts, but I see no malice in it. The Solana Foundation has done an excellent job in actively decentralizing this influence and supporting people in the ecosystem (e.g., Superteam, etc.). In my view, Toly is particularly good at supporting builders impartially, not based on personal preference, but based on (1) how cool their projects are, and (2) their sincerity." 6. What is Solana's biggest problem currently? The founders mentioned, "There is an urgent need for more blockchain space. Demand has increased 5 times + prices have doubled = to keep application developers' costs unchanged, we need to increase block size by 10 times!" 7. What do you think is the significance of memecoins for Solana? 8. There are many startups that are not your own; which one do you most hope to join? 9. Which one do you least want to join? The founders remarked, "I also don't want to join companies that haven't made progress." 10. What is the most overrated sector in Solana? The founders expressed, "SocialFi, DeSci, and gaming still have potential." 11. What is the most underrated sector in Solana? 12. Which of the following has the most damaging effect on Solana's reputation? The founders mentioned, "FTX was both the best and the worst in the early days, haha." There are many points worth discussing in depth, but I found a few particularly noteworthy: other founders did not rate pump.fun highly, but they generally believe that memecoins are beneficial to the ecosystem. Base and Sui seem to be the most attractive competitors to Solana at the moment. As a journalist, it is not easy to get founders to speak candidly in public. This survey helped me better understand the true thoughts of Solana's founders—at least from an overall perspective, it seems quite genuine.
