Odaily Planet Daily News: Brendan Greene, the creator of the online battle royale shooting game (PUBG), left the game's development team in 2019 and announced plans to create a new generation game-centered metaverse called 'Artemis', although it is unlikely to include NFTs. In a recent interview with IGN, Greene stated that he 'hasn't even considered' incorporating NFTs, and that his game studio PlayerUnknown Productions is currently developing the project. He added, 'We care about getting the engine to a state where we can make things in it, and then, as I said, in the second game, we will test ideas, but right now, we haven't even considered it. More about just making some fun games.' While NFTs may not appear in Greene's metaverse, he mentioned that blockchain technology could potentially be integrated at some point. 'Blockchain is an interesting financial tool, as a layer in the digital world... perhaps blockchain or hashgraph or future iterations of that technology will be interesting,' Greene said, 'Ultimately, it's a digital ledger, and if we can use a digital ledger, we'll find the best one and use it.' He also mentioned that the metaverse has become a 'dirty word', and he dismissed the initiatives of other metaverse creators, saying they have created an 'IP bubble' made from substandard technology, failing to deliver on the hype: 'I think everyone is building an IP bubble, and if lucky, these bubbles might interact at some stage in the future, but that's not the metaverse.'
