In a new start in 2025, ETF Store President Nate Geraci reviewed the performance of various assets in 2024 and made predictions about the development of cryptocurrency ETFs in 2025.
In 2024, U.S. ETF assets soared to $10 trillion.
Assets of U.S. listed exchange-traded funds surged to over $10 trillion, with inflows exceeding $1 trillion for the first time, and the new fund issuance in the industry also broke records.
In 2024, two ETFs broke the annual inflow record, namely Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO) and iShares Core S&P 500 ETF (IVV), with VOO becoming the first ETF to exceed $100 billion in annual inflows. IVV was also not far behind, with sales close to $90 billion.
First appearance of the spot Bitcoin ETF
After over a decade of uncertainty and regulatory hurdles, the spot Bitcoin ETF was finally approved in January 2024.
Despite more than $21 billion flowing out of the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC), these 12 ETFs have absorbed nearly $36 billion in funds.
In 2024, a record-breaking 730+ ETFs were launched. Among the top five in capital inflows, four were spot Bitcoin ETFs. Incredible to note, of the 12 Bitcoin ETFs, 10 occupied the newly launched top 50.
BlackRock's IBIT asset size has completely surpassed its gold ETF, iShares Gold Trust (IAU). IAU launched in January 2005, leading for nearly 20 years, with an asset size of $33 billion, while IBIT's asset size has reached $51.7 billion. You read that right—leading by nearly $20 billion.
