Lawmakers in the US who have received support from the crypto industry are preparing to be sworn into the 119th session of Congress. Crypto executives and political action committees (PACs) like Fairshake and its affiliates have spent millions of dollars on media buys to support “pro-crypto” candidates in the 2024 election cycle. This may have helped some politicians win in tight races.

In Ohio, Bernie Moreno’s win over incumbent Senator Sherrod Brown was notable for spending more than $40 million by the Defend American Jobs PAC. According to Follow The Crypto, 10 new members of the US Senate have received some form of funding from the crypto industry.

The same is true in the US House of Representatives. Fairshake and its affiliates have spent millions supporting both Democratic and Republican candidates in 2024. For example, Protect Progress spent about $1.7 million to support Alabama Representative Shomari Figures.

The influence of cryptocurrency seems unlikely to stop. According to Stand With Crypto, about 270 lawmakers will be “pro-crypto” in the next Congressional session. This could have an impact on crypto regulation in 2025.
