According to Deep Tide Techflow news on January 2, Tech Crunch reported that Telegram released its first update of the year, adding third-party supported account verification methods, new message search filters, and the ability to convert gifts into NFTs. Accounts verified by third parties will display a unique new badge instead of the traditional blue checkmark.
Telegram pointed out in the blog: "This decentralized additional verification platform can effectively prevent scams, reduce misinformation, and set a new security benchmark for social platforms with its unique proactive solutions." Telegram also launched a way to convert gifts into NFTs with custom backgrounds and icons. Users can give gifts by spending Telegram Stars, which can be purchased through in-app purchases or on the Fragment website after connecting a TON crypto wallet. Telegram stated that users will be able to trade these NFTs across different platforms. Notably, to cover blockchain transaction fees, Telegram will charge users for upgrading gifts to collectibles.
Telegram also utilizes cryptocurrency to provide monetization avenues for creators and serves as a payment method for games and mini-apps on the platform. Additionally, it launched an emoji reaction feature for service messages (such as someone joining a group) and introduced new search filters for private chats, group chats, and channels.
