Golden Finance reports that Evan Van Ness, the founder of the Week in Ethereum News (WiE), announced on social media that due to a conversation with the leadership of the Ethereum Foundation (EF) earlier this year, he has decided to terminate this newsletter, as the communication indicated that they believe continuing the operation of the Week in Ethereum News is not valuable. In 2024, WiE received very little funding support from the Ethereum Foundation. Although this support was mostly symbolic, the EF leadership's choice to cut this trivial support clearly indicated that WiE would end immediately. The Ethereum Foundation's withdrawal of support made it more evident than any other way that it was time for WiE to conclude. The Week in Ethereum News had once achieved good results. Over the years, many developers have told me at conferences that WiE has impacted their Solidity or security careers. They often mentioned that this newsletter influenced their decision to purchase ETH. Once upon a time, this established newsletter was the upstream source for most Ethereum news supporters. But unfortunately, WiE failed to find a sustainable business model. Advertising and sponsorship were difficult to sell because the marketing director did not value developers. My standards for content are high, but accomplishing this in a profitable way has proven to be too time-consuming.
