Techub News reported that Evan Van Ness, founder of the Ethereum Weekly (WiE), stated on the X platform that after discussions with the leadership of the Ethereum Foundation (EF), he decided to cease operations of WiE because the EF leadership indicated they could no longer see the value in WiE. In 2024, WiE received a very small symbolic support from the EF, and after learning that WiE might end operations, the EF directly stopped their support. After the EF ceased support, WiE seemed to have no other options besides halting operations.
The Ethereum Weekly once had a wonderful period of operation. Many developers told Evan that WiE had a significant impact on their Solidity or security careers.
However, WiE did not find a sustainable business model. The market does not value developers, making it difficult to obtain advertising revenue/sponsorship. Although there was an opportunity to continue operations through fundraising, Evan preferred to focus on meaningful new projects.
