Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has announced the symbolic “adoption” of Moo Deng, a five-month-old pygmy hippopotamus living at the Khao Kheow Zoo near Bangkok, Thailand. The news was shared by Buterin himself in a post on X last Thursday (26).
In addition to taking on the role of “adoptive father” to the animal, Buterin also revealed a donation of 10 million Thai baht (approximately R$1.8 million) to the zoo. The funds will be used to improve facilities, such as creating a specialized habitat for pygmy hippos, an endangered species.
“I hope this contribution will not only improve Moo Deng’s life, but also inspire others to get involved in protecting endangered species,” Buterin said in the post.
