## 0x00 Overview of Desci
When I first encountered the term Desci, I couldn't quite understand it. How can science be decentralized? Can science become an ERC20 token put into a pool? Later, while reviewing materials, I found that discussions and references to decentralized science have been around since 2021 or even earlier. Additionally, there were related articles on decentralized science introduced at Binance Square earlier this year.
Traditionally, everyone knows that conducting scientific research requires substantial funding. Many valuable research projects struggle to start or continue due to insufficient funds, and significant investments of time, energy, and resources do not necessarily yield good results. In terms of intellectual property, patenting research results involves complex and time-consuming application procedures, and the management process is cumbersome. Additionally, collaboration and communication among scientists often suffer due to geographical distances or institutional limitations, hindering effective communication and the collision of innovative ideas. These issues collectively constitute the bottleneck of traditional scientific research, impeding the speed and efficiency of scientific progress. However, the advantages of blockchain, such as immutability, transparency, decentralization, and community governance (DAO), can create a more open, transparent, collaborative, and efficient new paradigm for scientific research.
## 0x01 BIO Protocol
In November, Binance Labs announced an investment in the DeSci project BIO Protocol, marking Binance Labs' first foray into decentralized science (DeSci). Subsequently, at the DeSci Day event held in Bangkok, CZ and Vitalik Buterin appeared together to discuss DeSci and showcased related DeSci projects, including VitaDAO's longevity products (VitaDAO is the predecessor of BIO and has received investments from Pfizer and other venture capital firms).

BIO Protocol catalyzes on-chain scientific economics through decentralized funding, incentives, and liquidity, drawing design concepts from the team's previous successful experiences in Molecule (a tokenization platform for early biomedical projects) and VitaDAO (the largest decentralized community for longevity science).
