Russia is set to ban cryptocurrency mining in 10 regions starting January 1, 2025, until March 15, 2031, according to a report by TASS. The affected areas include Dagestan, Chechnya, and the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics. This move aims to prevent energy blackouts and aligns with new laws signed in 2024.
Additionally, seasonal mining restrictions will be imposed in Siberia's Irkutsk, Buryatia, and Zabaikalsky regions during winter. These measures reflect a shift from earlier proposals to ban mining in more regions, including Irkutsk, a key mining hub.
