Summary of Filecoin ecosystem development in 2024: Dozens of new teams are revitalized after internal reorganization! Progress has been made in L1, L2, AI, DePIN, etc.

Filecoin Ecosystem Review in 2024

As 2024 draws to a close, it’s time to look back and celebrate a year of progress, milestones, and innovation across the Filecoin ecosystem. This year, developers built more applications on Filecoin than ever before, storage providers expanded their services, and AI teams found new ways to work with the Filecoin ecosystem to build decentralized storage and compute into their products. Let’s dive in and replay the highlights.

A milestone year: Space and cross L1.

At the beginning of this year, we announced that the Filecoin Foundation (FF) successfully completed the pioneering mission of deploying the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) in space. The demonstration involved the implementation of the IPFS protocol designed specifically for space communication, sending files from Earth to orbit and back.

FF is bridging with other Layer 1 (L1) ecosystems to enhance decentralization and resilience. This month, Blockfrost announced integration with Filecoin as a powerful backup layer for Cardano applications built by Blockfrost. Blockfrost will also introduce a new service layer for Cardano builders, which includes IPFS and Filecoin storage.

Earlier this year, we announced a collaboration driven by Triton One and DCENT to archive Solana's block history on Filecoin, thereby enhancing the decentralization of the Solana ecosystem.

Filecoin is a key infrastructure for decentralized AI.

As the AI industry continues to grow, the demand for data storage and computing power is increasing. Web3 tools like Filecoin have unique advantages in helping to decentralize and support AI development without concentrating power in the hands of a few participants. This approach fosters advances in AI while ensuring that development remains open and transparent.

FF announced a collaboration in 2024 with leading AI companies such as SingularityNET, Theoriq, Bagel, Nuklai, KiteAI, and Aethir, with each company emphasizing the versatility of the Filecoin network as decentralized infrastructure for AI.

In November, Filecoin was selected for Fast Company's 'New Big Tech Events' list, which aims to recognize emerging technologies that have a profound impact across various industries. Filecoin is considered a key component of the internet infrastructure powering decentralized artificial intelligence.

Filecoin L2s take off.

The rise of Filecoin L2, including Akave, Storacha, and Textile's Basin, provides modular, customizable, and scalable solutions for building on Filecoin. L2 extends the chain functionality and performance of Filecoin, enabling tailored features for various markets and customers such as AI, DePIN, enterprises, computing, and gaming.

With the expansion of the network, these developments mark a turning point for the Filecoin network as it emerges as the largest decentralized storage network, designed to preserve humanity's most important information.

Dozens of new teams are contributing to the network.

The Filecoin ecosystem provides a thriving environment for projects, teams, and companies to build the technologies of today and tomorrow. In the past year, new organizations have been established to support the growth and decentralization of the network, driving transformation for Filecoin and the Web.

FIL-B, FilOz, Akave, Curio, Storacha, Filponto, IPC, ANSA Research, CryptoEconLab, DeStor, and Space Meridian are just some of the new organizations helping to make Filecoin a decentralized network infrastructure layer.

Thank you!

As we prepare to turn the page on another great year for the Filecoin ecosystem, we want to thank the incredible community made up of builders, storage providers, data customers, and everyone who has helped shape the future of the network. We invite you to join us in making the coming year our best yet.
