According to a report by Chainalysis, North Korean hackers stole $1.3 billion worth of cryptocurrency through 47 attacks in 2024, accounting for 61% of the global total, doubling from $660 million in 2023. The report noted a significant increase in both the frequency and profits of North Korea's large-scale attacks, while global hacking activity declined in the second half of 2024. Meanwhile, several incidents in December indicated that the holiday season remains a high-risk period. The total amount of cryptocurrency stolen throughout the year was approximately $2.2 billion, a year-on-year increase of 21%, but still far below the approximately $3.7 billion in 2022. The year 2022 remains the year with the highest amount of cryptocurrency stolen by hackers. (Cointelegraph)
