Craig Wright, a computer scientist who falsely claimed to be Bitcoin’s creator, was sentenced to one year in prison for contempt of court. However, the judge suspended the sentence for two years, subject to Wright not violating any further court orders. Wright, who was present at the hearing remotely, claims to be in Asia, with speculations about his location being made between Singapore and Indonesia.
This may complicate the enforcement of his sentence should he re-offend. The Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) also secured a reimbursement of legal costs totaling £145,000 ($181,500) from Wright. Despite the judgment, Wright intends to appeal the ruling.
