MEP Sarah Knafo has called for the European Union to create a strategic Bitcoin reserve and rejected the adoption of the “digital euro,” a central bank digital currency (CBDC) developed by the European Central Bank (ECB).

Speaking at the European Parliament, Knafo said the ECB’s “totalitarian tendencies” must be resisted and called for embracing Bitcoin’s decentralized nature.

Knafo criticized Europe’s focus on crypto regulation, citing El Salvador’s Bitcoin adoption and the US’s crypto-friendly agenda.
