PANews December 12 news, American large Bitcoin ATM operator Byte Federal revealed that a recent data breach may have resulted in the personal information of 58,000 customers being exposed. According to documents submitted to the Maine Attorney General, hackers attempted to access customers' names, addresses, phone numbers, government-issued IDs, social security numbers, transaction activities, and user photos.

The security vulnerability occurred on September 30 and was discovered on November 18. The attackers accessed Byte Federal's network by exploiting a vulnerability in third-party software, which was located in the popular developer platform GitLab. Byte Federal operates over 1,200 Bitcoin ATMs in the United States and has since reset all customer accounts and updated internal passwords to enhance security measures.
