UnitedHealthcare CEO Killed in New York
UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was fatally shot in New York City shortly before 7 a.m. Wednesday, news reports said. Thompson, who leads UnitedHealthcare, one of UnitedHealth Group’s two main subsidiaries, was scheduled to attend the company’s investor day event later that day when he was targeted by a gunman.
The New York Police Department has confirmed Thompson’s death, and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing. Despite the tragic incident, the investor day conference went ahead as originally scheduled, with UnitedHealth Group CEO Andrew Witty kicking it off with a statement saying, “We will prove once again that when the going gets tough, the tough get going.”
