Cryptocurrency investors can't seem to get enough of The Open Network (TON), the blockchain closely associated with messaging app Telegram.

Pantera Capital, one of the largest venture capital and hedge funds in the cryptocurrency space, has raised $20 million to invest in Toncoin (TON), according to documents filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday.

The company raised money from at least 29 investors across two separate funds, according to the filing. Both funds had their first sales in July and were signed on November 27.

Pantera Capital reportedly contacted investors in June. The minimum amount to participate is $250,000.

Pantera Capital’s two new funds for Toncoin build on an earlier investment in the Telegram-affiliated cryptocurrency announced in May. The firm described the investment as the “largest” in its 21-year history but did not disclose the specific size.

Durov's arrest

Pantera Capital's optimism about TON mirrors the enthusiasm of other crypto investors, even after French authorities arrested Telegram CEO Pavel Durov in August.

Durov is currently on bail in France.

He faces six initial charges for allegedly refusing to cooperate with law enforcement agencies regarding the distribution of child sexual abuse material, drug trafficking and other criminal activities on Telegram.

After Durov was arrested, the price of TON fell.

TON Recovery

TON supporters, however, have not lost faith. “The fundamental value of TON remains very compelling,” Alex Felix, managing partner at CoinFund, told DL News in August.

At a blockchain conference in Dubai in November, attendees said the TON ecosystem had weathered the Durov incident.

“It’s definitely been a tough few weeks,” Jack Booth, co-founder of the TON Society, which organizes the conference, told DL News. “But the news cycle always continues.”

Now, thanks to the strong recovery of the crypto market after Donald Trump won the US presidential election, Toncoin has recovered almost all of its losses since Durov's arrest.

As of today, Toncoin's price has risen to $6.84, up 2% from the token's price before Durov's arrest, according to CoinGecko. It is currently trading around $6.60, TON is still trading nearly 20% below its peak in July.
