Apple CEO Tim Cook has revealed that he has been holding Bitcoin for three years.
Cook's interest and research into Bitcoin is personal, and Apple may join the cryptocurrency bandwagon in the near future.
The Apple CEO said it was “reasonable” to own Bitcoin as part of a diversified portfolio, but clarified that he was not offering investment advice, only sharing his personal feelings.
Tim Cook clearly stated that he holds Bitcoin but did not disclose the amount. He insists that Apple is considering cryptocurrency but is not in a hurry to make it a core part of its business.
Tim Cook added that he would not invest the company's funds (about $200 billion in cash) in Bitcoin, which does not mean he wouldn't invest his own money, but rather that investors buy Apple stock not for any form of cryptocurrency benefit.
However, he pointed out that shareholders can freely invest in cryptocurrency directly in their own way.
The CEO does not believe he deserves to be labeled in relation to cryptocurrency or Bitcoin, and he added that NFTs are also interesting.
As early as 2021, Apple Inc. stated at the DealBook online summit that the company is researching cryptocurrency.
Previously, Apple Inc. had a long-standing 'entanglement' with Bitcoin. From late 2013 to early 2014, some Bitcoin-related apps were rejected from the App Store, and Apple suddenly removed all Bitcoin wallet services from the App Store.
Soon, Apple's stance shifted dramatically. At the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in June 2014, a change in App Store terms regarding cryptocurrency sparked a wave of excitement in the cryptocurrency community.
So far, Apple Inc. has not engaged in any direct activities related to cryptocurrency.
However, comparisons between Bitcoin and Apple Inc. are also beginning to attract market attention, with topics such as 'When will Bitcoin surpass Apple?' emerging, and even each time Apple releases a new product, it is measured against the value of Bitcoin.
Especially since giants like Tesla entered the cryptocurrency market, news about Apple purchasing Bitcoin or entering the space has frequently appeared.
