The developer of the cryptocurrency mixer stated that he is extremely disappointed with the court's decision. According to him, in the conditions he is in, preparing for court hearings on the appeal of the previously issued sentence is extremely difficult.
This refers to the court's sentence, according to which Pertsev was found guilty of creating and supporting the activities of the crypto mixer and sentenced to five years in prison. According to the prosecution, the programmer was involved in laundering over $1.2 billion. Pertsev did not plead guilty and filed an appeal.
His lawyers have repeatedly requested the court to release their client on bail until the appeal is heard.
Meanwhile, in the U.S. Congress, officials from the Department of the Treasury were required to provide a report on the situation with Tornado Cash. Congress members from the House of Representatives expressed concern that despite previously imposed restrictions, the service continues to operate, and funds are being laundered through it. In the first half of the year, cryptocurrency worth $1.8 billion passed through Tornado Cash, which is 45% more than for the entire year of 2023.
