Ilya Lichtenstein was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to being one of the men who hacked the crypto exchange Bitfinex in 2016. In a hearing held in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on November 14, Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly sentenced Lichtenstein to five years in prison for money laundering. Prosecutors recommended a lighter sentence because of his lack of criminal history and his “substantial assistance” in other investigations. His wife, Heather Morgan, is also expected to be sentenced on November 18. Share your comments: Is a reduced sentence fair in cases like this?
