Animal Meme Coin Boom: PNUT and FRED See Skyrocketing Prices
While #Dogecoin is growing strongly, other animal-inspired meme coins like PNUT and FRED have seen a much larger increase of $DOGE this week.
$PNUT , a meme coin on $SOL inspired by a squirrel named Peanut, exploded after the story of the squirrel being euthanized by New York state authorities over rabies concerns went viral. After Elon Musk mentioned the incident, PNUT quickly surged in price, reaching a market cap of $1.5 billion and up 1,524% over the past week, currently trading at $1.65.
Similarly, another meme coin, #FRED —named after the panda named Fred who was also destroyed in the same incident as Peanut—has surged 383% in the past 24 hours, reaching a market cap of $129 million.
In addition, many other meme coins such as Harambe (HARAMBE) and Keyboard Cat (KEYCAT) are also gaining attention from the community and recording significant growth. These coins not only reflect the popularity of real-life animals, but also attract investors thanks to stories that spread strongly on social media.
