The time nodes for confirming the new president in the 2024 US election are as follows:
November 5: Voting in each state. The opening hours of polling stations vary from region to region, but they are usually open around 7 am and closed around 8 pm (mail-in ballots should be postmarked before 8 pm). After that, the counting of votes will begin, but there may be some disputes and recounts.
Mid-November to December: A series of procedures such as vote counting confirmation, recounting (if necessary), and review of ballot quality will be carried out. Each state needs to complete these tasks within the prescribed time and report the election results to the relevant departments.
Around December 17: The ballots of all voters are basically finalized and cannot be changed. The electors of each state are generated. The electors will vote according to the results of the general election in the state and support the corresponding presidential candidate on behalf of the state.
Late December: After the electors vote, the electoral votes will be sent to the National Archives and the Speaker of the Senate.
January 6, 2025: Congress meets to count the Electoral College votes and ultimately certify the winner.
