Metaplanet has now claimed the title of Asia’s largest corporate Bitcoin holder after boosting its holdings to over 1,000 BTC. The company confirmed this achievement today, announcing a recent purchase of 156 BTC valued at 1.6 billion Japanese Yen. The announcement triggered a 6.06% surge in Metaplanet’s stock price, reaching 1138 JPY in early trading across Asia.

Metaplanet’s journey into Bitcoin began in May, with the company making steady acquisitions. In August, it took a 1 billion yen loan from MMXX Ventures Limited, fueling its BTC acquisition strategy. Since then, it has conducted 11 rounds of Stock Acquisition Rights, raising 10 billion yen to bolster its BTC purchases.
In just this month, Metaplanet purchased more than 600 BTC. This brings their total BTC holdings to 1,018.17 BTC. The company has opted to hold onto Bitcoin as a long-term investment. Its goal is to provide steady profits for its investors.
New BTC Yield Metric
Metaplanet recently introduced a new performance metric called the BTC Yield. This indicator offers insight into the company’s returns from its Bitcoin investments. CEO Simon Gerovich emphasized that this metric aligns with industry best practices, helping investors better assess Metaplanet’s Bitcoin strategy.
The BTC Yield showed a 116% return for the company’s Bitcoin holdings this month. This marked a substantial increase from the 41.7% yield recorded between July 1 and September 30. Gerovich attributed this growth to the company's expanding BTC assets, which doubled over the previous quarter.
With its latest acquisition strategy, Metaplanet aims to strengthen its market position and enhance shareholder value through Bitcoin.
