PANews reported on October 15 that according to The Block, Coinbase is asking the U.S. District of Columbia Federal Court to make a ruling to force the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to provide documents on how securities laws apply to cryptocurrencies. Coinbase previously sued the SEC in June, claiming that it failed to comply with the (Freedom of Information Act) (FOIA) requirements. Coinbase hopes to obtain external and internal communication documents about the SEC's investigation into whether cryptocurrencies are securities, especially about Ethereum (ETH). The SEC refused to provide these documents and claimed that it was exempt from FOIA, but recently stated that this exemption may not apply. The court will decide whether Coinbase can submit a partial summary judgment motion, and no ruling is expected before the end of the year.
