As of September 2024, the total value of cryptocurrency investment worldwide reached $2.26 trillion. This figure, which covers all cryptocurrencies from Bitcoin to altcoins, is comparable to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of some Latin American countries.
For example, Mexico's GDP in 2023 was approximately $1.4 trillion. This means that the total amount invested in cryptocurrencies worldwide currently exceeds the total economy of Mexico, one of the largest in Latin America, by more than 60%.
What can we expect for 2024?
With the projected growth of cryptocurrencies, the global market capitalization is expected to surpass $2.5 trillion by the end of 2024. This growth driven by institutional adoption and technological innovation will bring cryptocurrency investment closer to the GDP of larger economies, such as Brazil, whose GDP in 2023 was around $2.06 trillion, almost matching the value of cryptocurrencies today.
Comparison with Mexico and Brazil:
Cryptocurrencies (2024): $2.26 trillion
Mexico GDP (2023): 1.4 trillion dollars
Brazil GDP (2023): 2.06 trillion dollars
This comparison highlights the growing impact of cryptocurrencies on the global economy, as their value exceeds or equals the economies of some of the most important countries in Latin America.
