According to BlockBeats, on September 17, the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) stated that more than 40 financial companies will explore the application of tokenization in wholesale cross-border payments through the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) Project Agorá.

The financial firms were selected by the BIS following an open call for participants in May. The project is now in the design phase.

The BIS said on its website that the project, based on its unified ledger concept, “will examine how tokenized commercial bank deposits and tokenized wholesale central bank money can be seamlessly integrated into a programmable core financial platform.” (CoinDesk)
