Israel has frozen cryptocurrency accounts that have been used on social media to collect donations for the Palestinian Hamas group.

With the outbreak of war, the Hamas terrorist organization was suspected of starting to raise funds on social media and ask the public to deposit cryptocurrency into their accounts, the defense ministry froze wallet accounts with the help of the Binance exchange to divert the funds to the state treasury.

"Reported by Antara news, the statement did not provide more detailed information regarding how many accounts were frozen or the amount of crypto funds confiscated."

The spokesperson said the stock exchange was working actively with partners among global law enforcement agencies and regulators.

"Hamas has for years supported fundraising methods using cryptocurrencies. However, the group said in April this year it would no longer accept charity funds via the digital currency Bitcoin, citing an increase in "dangerous" actions against donors. A Hamas spokesperson has not yet can be contacted for comment.

The attack is one of the most serious forms of escalating tensions in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in recent years.
