According to ChainCatcher, when Nayib Bukele, President of El Salvador, was interviewed by Time magazine, when asked whether the monetization of Bitcoin was "successful", he said, "Bitcoin has not yet achieved the widespread adoption we expected. Many Salvadorans are using it, and most large companies in El Salvador also accept it. You can pay with Bitcoin at McDonald's, supermarkets or hotels. But it has not reached the level of adoption we expected. The positive side is that it is voluntary; we have never forced anyone to adopt it. We offer it as an option, and those who choose to use it have benefited from the rise of Bitcoin.

Nayib Bukele noted that despite limited domestic adoption, Bitcoin has helped boost El Salvador’s “brand,” attracting foreign investment and boosting tourism. Several Bitcoin companies have offices or headquarters in the country.
