An interview between Elon Musk and former President #donaldtrump, hosted on X, attracted over 1 million listeners but did not touch on cryptocurrency topics.
The two-hour conversation explored a range of issues, including illegal immigration, the economy, AI and global warming, but did not mention bitcoin or cryptocurrencies. The interview, which was delayed by more than 45 minutes due to what Musk described as a “massive DDOS attack on X,” sparked controversy.
Musk suggested that the attack reflected a strong opposition to listening to Trump’s views. However, The Verge questioned that claim, citing a source who said there was a “99 percent chance Musk was lying” about the attack. Netblocks reported an international outage on X Spaces but did not confirm whether it was a DDOS attack.
On #Polymarket, a prediction market, bettors placed a 65% probability that “cryptocurrency” would be mentioned, with over $600,000 wagered on the topic. A related market for “bitcoin” had a 69% probability with around $330,000 wagered. Each share in these markets pays $1 in#USDCif the prediction is correct.
Other markets on Polymarket included bets on Trump mentioning “Tesla,” which peaked at 79%, despite Trump calling Tesla “your car” instead. Bettors also bet on Trump saying words like “MAGA,” “illegal immigrants,” and “tampons.”
Despite the growing attention to cryptocurrencies in political discussions, including Trump’s recent appearance at the $BTC 2024 conference in Nashville to announce crypto policy, mainstream events like this interview continue to exclude direct mentions of cryptocurrencies.
