According to Wu, on December 18, the South Korean prosecutors recommended to the Seoul Southern District Court that former Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Nam-guk be sentenced to six months in prison. Kim Nam-guk was accused of falsifying property declarations in 2021 and 2022 to conceal cryptocurrency assets worth up to 9.9 billion won.
Part of the assets were converted into bank deposits to adjust the total amount of property, while the rest continued to be kept in the form of cryptocurrency. Prosecutors pointed out that this move was intended to hinder the property review of the National Assembly Public Service Ethics Committee, and the case is still under trial.
