ChainCatcher reported that according to Cointelegraph, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) issued a warning about scammers impersonating cryptocurrency exchange employees to steal funds, saying that these scammers will contact users, claiming that there are urgent problems with their accounts, in order to trick users into revealing personal information or clicking on malicious links.

The FBI says that if cryptocurrency users receive calls or messages about problems with their accounts, the first step must be to "not respond." The government agency asks users to do this even if the call or message appears official. "Hang up. Call the official number of the cryptocurrency exchange to verify if there is a problem. Do not use any number provided by the caller," the FBI wrote.

Additionally, the FBI asks users not to visit any websites or click on any links sent by the caller. The agency says it is best to navigate to the official exchange website alone. If the caller asks for login details, the FBI urges users not to provide that information and to avoid downloading files and attachments in the message. Lastly, the FBI asks victims to report any scam-related activity to official channels. The agency also asks victims to provide information on transactions related to the scam.
