Alex Mashinsky, former CEO of cryptocurrency platform Celsius, faces criminal prosecution in the United States. His lawyers failed to drop two charges related to commodities fraud and manipulation of Celsius (CEL) token prices, according to WuSaid.

Judge John Koeltl, in a filing with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, ruled that arguments by Mashinsky’s legal team to dismiss the charges were “without merit or basis.” The judge denied the motion to dismiss two counts, leaving seven counts in the indictment.

Alex Mashinsky’s trial is scheduled to begin in January 2025.
