Giant Bitcoin (BTC) miner Bitfarms took an important step for critical board elections.
Bitcoin mining company Bitfarms announced that it will hold a special shareholder meeting on October 29, 2024, at the request of Riot Platforms.
At this meeting, a vote will be taken to reshape Bitfarms' board of directors.
In the statement, it was stated that Bitfarms shareholders who registered on September 26, 2024 can vote at the meeting, but they are not required to take any action at this time.
Bitfarms announced that it evaluated the request with the help of a special committee and financial/legal advisors and unanimously determined the meeting date.
Riot Platforms is recommending the dismissal of Bitfarms' president and interim CEO Nicolas Bonta and board member Andrés Finkielsztain. Ben Gagnon was appointed CEO in July but is not yet on the board.

Riot Platforms has nominated John Delaney, Amy Freedman and Ralph Goehring to its board of directors.
Bitfarms stated that these issues could be discussed at Riot's annual general meeting and that the company was taking precautions against takeover attempts with its poison pill strategy.
Riot Platforms is the largest shareholder of Bitfarms, holding a 14.9% stake. Bitfarms stressed that it will continue to cooperate with its shareholders and work constructively
