CoinVoice recently learned that according to CoinDesk, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) plans to investigate the energy consumption of crypto mining companies again, and this time it will first solicit opinions from industry participants. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) held a public webinar on Wednesday to listen to the opinions of crypto miners and industry participants.

In January, the EIA proposed a mandatory survey requiring nearly 500 crypto mining companies to provide detailed energy consumption data, but was blocked by lawsuits. The seminar attracted more than 100 participants, 10 of whom spoke out, including Bitcoin researcher Margot Paez and Texas Blockchain Association President Lee Bratcher.

EIA official Stephen Harvey said that the preliminary proposal is currently being developed and is expected to be published in the Federal Register this quarter and will accept industry feedback during the 60-day comment period. The final decision will be made by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). [Original link]
