According to PANews, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin advocated in his keynote speech at the ETHCC in Brussels that the Ethereum network should be more prepared for hypothetical censorship under a 51% attack. He advocated for more research and construction on this, believing that such an attack could lead to network censorship.

He proposed developing an automated response so that honest validators can automatically fork the blockchain when censorship is detected. He acknowledged that while it is impossible to achieve 100% automatic network forking, the closer it is to this goal, the less effort will be required for social consensus.

On the technical level, he proposed the need for an obvious soft fork winner so that the community can unite when needed. He also advocated increasing the adoption of light clients at the Ethereum infrastructure layer and solving outstanding issues such as quantum resistance, while pushing for further simplification of the protocol.
