China has formed a committee to develop brain-computer interfaces (BCI) and hopes to become the global leader in brain chip technology. It was reported that the committee will develop national standards to compete with western technology companies such as Elon Musk's Neuralink.

BCI refers to any device that translates the brain's signals into a language that a computer can interpret. Over the past 50 years, scientists and engineers have used them to study the human brain and develop methods to treat various neurological conditions.

China's goals include becoming a global leader in the development of BCIs as well as using them for cognitive enhancement purposes. However, it is not yet clear what this means. According to Wired magazine, a Chinese company has introduced a "native" brain-computer interface that allows a monkey to control a robotic arm just by thinking.

On the other hand, Neuralink recently postponed an operation to implant a device into a second patient's brain due to medical concerns. Meanwhile, Mark Zuckerberg's Meta is working on a non-invasive BCI based on wearable technology that would translate nerve impulses into a language that could be used to run the operating system for a holographic display device.
