Silence is broken in old Bitcoin wallet: First transaction in 13 years

Many Bitcoin wallets that have been inactive for years became active again this week. Among these was a 13-year-old wallet. Finally, today 1004 BTC was released from the 10 year old wallet.

Today, 1004 BTC were withdrawn from a wallet where no movement had been observed in over 10 years. The transaction was performed at 02:57 p.m. Almost all assets, worth about $57 million, continued to be held in another wallet from which they were transferred.

The wallet owner received these BTC between November 25, 2013 and March 13, 2014. The average price per BTC was 735 USD. It is unclear whether the investor, who made a 7,500% profit on his Bitcoin investment 10 years ago, made the transaction for sales purposes or to change wallets. On the other hand, it is very likely that this was an OTC (over-the-counter) transaction.

Transactions made from wallets that have been inactive for years have become more frequent since early July. On Tuesday, a wallet containing 33 BTC made its first transaction in 13 years, while on Wednesday, another wallet containing 43 BTC went live after 10 years and 4 months. This activity continued in the following days. On Thursday, 119 BTC wallet moved for the first time in 12 years and 4 months, and yesterday, 20#TCwallet moved again after 11 years.

Bitcoin fell from $63k to $53k during this period. The number one cryptocurrency is trading at 56.670 USD on 13.45 CET. $BTC
